SaskTel extends its crisis help to May 31; rural internet traffic up 96%

REGINA – SaskTel today announced it will continue to waive data overage charges through to May 31st, 2020.

This means residential or business customers will not have to pay any wireless domestic data overage charges on SaskTel’s postpaid wireless plans, noStrings prepaid wireless plans or SaskTel fusion (rural fixed wireless) internet plans from March 17th to May 31st, 2020.

Since mid-March, SaskTel’s networks have experienced an increase in wireless data traffic of approximately 37%, fusion Internet network traffic has increased of up to 96%, overall Internet data traffic is up about 10%, and maxTV has seen an increase in content delivery traffic of 37%, says the company.

SaskTel’s wireline home internet is already unlimited for all customers. The company will also continue to provide free content to its residential maxTV and maxTV Stream customers, with current access to over 50 channels on free preview.

“Keeping the province connected throughout the Covid-19 outbreak remains SaskTel’s number one priority, and we are pleased to extend this offer,” said Doug Burnett, president and CEO, in the release.

“Even in the face of significant increases in traffic and a shift in where our customers are working, SaskTel’s networks and systems have performed very well,” he added.
