
SaskTel announced Thursday it has expanded its 5G network to over 50 rural and indigenous community and highway sites.
The expansions this month include Barford Barrier River, Bertwell, Big Island Lake Cree Nation, Blue Bell, northeast Dinsmore, Dubuc, Ebenezer, south Elbow, Lac La Ronge First Nation, Farrerdale, Fort a la Corne, Foxdale, Goodsoil, Grandora, Gravelbourg, James Smith Cree Nation, Kamsack, Kawacatoose First Nation, La Ronge, Lebret, Loon Lake, Loreburn, Love, Macklin, Marquis, Neudorf, Nokomis, North Grove – Buffalo Pound, north Orkney, Preeceville, Red Earth Cree Nation, Rhein, south Richmond, Riverhurst, Sask Landing, north Scout Lake, Semans, Shell Lake, north Smoky Burn, Spalding, Stoughton, Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Turtle Lake (Powm Beach), Wakaw, Waterhen Lake First Nation, and Highways 3, 4, 26, 55, and 9.
The telecom can deliver theoretical download speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second on the next-generation network.
The expansion is part of SaskTel’s $2-billion plan to invest in the expansion of 5G and fibre networks over five years, including $440 million in 2024/2025.
