SaskTel eases network congestion

REGINA – Recent upgrades to SaskTel’s 4G wireless network have begun to put a dent in network congestion issues in communities across the province, the telco said Thursday.

Noting that it can never guarantee uninterrupted service, SaskTel said that the ongoing improvements have begun to result in fewer dropped calls, fewer delays in sending and receiving text messages, higher Internet speeds and improved battery life for its customers.

SaskTel president and CEO Ron Styles admitted that the growing demand for wireless data has posed “a significant engineering challenge”.

“Many SaskTel employees have worked tirelessly over the past eight weeks to increase 4G capacity in communities across the province,” he said in a statement.  “This is a major project for SaskTel, and 4G service has already started to improve as a result of these ongoing improvements. This project has demonstrated SaskTel’s strong commitment to its Saskatchewan customers.”
