REGINA – the final phase of SaskTel’s $28 million expansion program aimed at improving digital cellular service at 31 locations across the province was announced today.
An additional $2.4 million will be invested to expand service to eight previously unserved northern communities. When the current expansion is finished at the end of 2008, SaskTel digital cellular service will be available to more than 96% of the Saskatchewan population, and SaskTel will have invested over $122 million in digital cellular service since 1998.
SaskTel also used the release to say that it now offers phone number portability allowing customers to take their wired or wireless phone number with them should they switch providers. However, while customers in Regina, Saskatoon, North Battleford, Swift Current, Prince Albert, Yorkton and Moose Jaw will be able to port their number immediately, number portability will be available in other Saskatchewan communities later in 2007.
Included in the digital cellular expansion are eight previously unserved areas in Northern Saskatchewan: Stanley Mission, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay, Chitek Lake, La Loche West, Pine House, Denare Beach and Deschambault Village. The 31 improvement locations are:
