SaskTel brings maxTV Stream to Leader and McPhee Lake

LEADER and MCPHEE LAKE, Sask. — SaskTel today announced the town of Leader is the latest rural Saskatchewan community to now have access to the company’s maxTV Stream and interNET Extended 25 and 50 broadband services.

Delivering download speeds up to 25 Mbps and 50 Mbps respectively, interNET Extended 25 and interNET Extended 50 are the fastest rural internet packages offered by SaskTel, says its press release. With the expansion into Leader (pop. 836, about 152 kms northwest of Swift Current), SaskTel now offers internet packages with download speeds up to 50 Mbps in more than 330 communities across the province.

SaskTel’s maxTV Stream combines traditional television with advanced technology and OTT content from Netflix and YouTube and is now available in more than 370 communities in Saskatchewan. Advanced features include the abilities to restart live TV up to 72 hours in the past and to control the TV with Bluetooth and voice-command technology.

In a separate announcement today, the provincial Crown corporation said it has also extended its maxTV Stream service to the residents of McPhee Lake (a tiny village about 80 kms north of Prince Albert), in addition to launching its DSL-based interNET Extended 5 and interNET Extended 10 services in the community. This expansion was made possible by SaskTel’s Community Participation Program in partnership with the community of McPhee Lake, says the company’s press release.

Through the program, communities which do not meet SaskTel’s criteria for service expansion provide a portion of the funds required to cover the capital costs to bring SaskTel’s services to their residents, thereby helping the company “to sustainably expand services to areas of the province where it may not otherwise by economically feasible to do so,” says the release.
