REGINA – SaskTel has expanded LTE coverage for the first time to 146 towers serving rural areas and communities across Saskatchewan.
The Crown corp. said Monday that it now has 92% of the province covered with LTE, and that full coverage is anticipated by next month.
“SaskTel is committed to investing in infrastructure that will position the company to lay the groundwork for future network enhancements, such as the introduction of Voice over LTE (VoLTE),” said president and CEO Ron Styles, in the news release. “We understand that rural customers want access to the highest speeds available and we are working hard to deliver a world class cellular network in all rural areas.”
The expansion of LTE is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest over $300 million in capital in Saskatchewan in 2016/17 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021.
