REGINA – SaskTel’s board of directors announced today that president and CEO Doug Burnett is retiring.
The board said the retirement will take effect between the end of May to early June this year, “with an effective date that allows for a smooth transition to be determined.”
The board said the search for his replacement “will begin shortly.”
“The board is extremely grateful for Doug’s leadership during his tenure as President and CEO of SaskTel,” said SaskTel board chair Grant Kook in a press release. “Doug is an exceptional leader with a track record for delivering on results year over year. We are thankful for Doug’s remarkable vision, innovation, and commitment to providing world-class communications services to the province of Saskatchewan.”
Saskatchewan’s minister responsible for the company noted that Burnett “has been instrumental in delivering on our government’s plan to build a better Saskatchewan by investing in infrastructure that supports and strengthens growth and continued prosperity in all communities in our province.”
Before taking on the lead role at the crown corporation in 2019, Burnett spent over 30 years in other roles at the telecom, starting with his hiring in 1990 as corporate counsel and then general manager of human resources. In 2003, he was appointed vice president of human resources and corporate services before becoming acting president for several years.
Burnett spent six years before his tenure at SaskTel working as a lawyer, the degree for which he obtained from the University of Saskatchewan.
