SaskTel begins rollout of new wireless broadband internet service

REGINA – SaskTel has rolled out a targeted launch of its high speed fusion Internet service, a new fixed wireless LTE-TDD service for wireless broadband Internet (WBBI) customers receiving service from specific towers in the province.

Those towers are located in Climax, Hodgeville, Milestone, Avonlea, Blewett, Caron, Hirsch, Mankota, Maryfield, Orkney, Pangman and Central Butte, where SaskTel high throughput datellite service is not available.  A deployment schedule will be announced in November, and WBBI customers receiving service from these 12 towers will be required to migrate to a new service within 30 days after the deployment of the high speed fusion Internet service in their location.

The service will be available for $79.99 per month and will offer download speeds of up to 5 Mbps.  Existing WBBI customers will be eligible for a special conversion offer which includes free installation, no required equipment purchase and a credit of $200.
“The new SaskTel High Speed Fusion service will provide our WBBI customers in these 12 tower locations with more than twice the speed of the existing WBBI service,” said president and CEO Ron Styles, in the announcement.  “This is a brand new technology for Saskatchewan and Canada, and based on our experience and learning from this initial deployment, we will consider additional locations in the future.”

SaskTel added that it has requested an extension from Industry Canada for the WBBI spectrum to March 31, 2015 for the remaining 43 WBBI towers across the province to allow customers more time to convert to a new Internet service.
