SaskTel begins 5G rollout in Prince Albert

SaskTel announced last week it has recently begun rolling out its 5G network in the City of Prince Albert, providing residents in some parts of the city with access to the same faster-speed wireless infrastructure as those living in Regina, Saskatoon and several other communities across Saskatchewan.

SaskTel’s 5G network can currently deliver data speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps. The Crown corporation says the network will provide significantly faster speeds as it matures.

“Today’s announcement is a positive step forward in our efforts to bring improved wireless service to the City of Prince Albert,” Charlene Gavel, SaskTel’s president and CEO, said in a press release. “As Saskatchewan’s homegrown communications leader, we are committed to working with the city to ensure all residents of Prince Albert will be able to enjoy the unparalleled speed and reliability of our 5G network.”

“Ensuring our residents have access to cutting-edge communications solutions is a major priority for the City of Prince Albert,” said Greg Dionne, the city’s mayor. “With 5G from SaskTel, our residents will be able to enjoy improved connectivity which will help enhance quality of life and make Prince Albert an even more attractive place to live, work, and grow a family.”

The ongoing expansion of SaskTel’s 5G and fibre networks is a direct result of SaskTel’s commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years, the release says.

To connect to SaskTel’s 5G network, customers need to be within a 5G coverage area, have a 5G-capable device certified for use on the SaskTel 5G network and subscribe to a 5G-compatible wireless plan.
