REGINA – SaskTel announced today it is partnering with Stafford Communications to bring high-speed internet to parts of east-central Saskatchewan.
Communities and the surrounding rural areas of Crystal Springs, Jumping Lake, Struthers Lake, Tarnopol, Waitville, and Yellow Creek are expected to get download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, double the federal objective speed.
“This initial pilot project at Yellow Creek will allow us to provide improved broadband services at an accelerated rate to the surrounding communities and rural areas while also enhancing our existing coverage in and around the communities of Ethelton, Meskanaw, and Tway,” said Stafford president Allen Stafford in the release. “Deploying our LTE-Advanced network will allow customers in this area of the province to experience download speeds up to 100 Mbps, faster than any other solution available in the area today.”
To pull this off, Gronlid-based Stafford is signing onto the crown corporation’s Rural Broadband Partnership Program, which was formed in 2021 to help connect areas that SaskTel itself may not be able to reach.
“Having already worked with a number of local providers, we’ve seen tangible results from this program, and we look forward to creating new partnerships that will allow us to reach more rural and Indigenous communities,” SaskTel president and CEO Doug Burnett said in a press release today.
The program has so far helped over a dozen rural areas get connected, the release added.
