Saskatoon hotel rolls out Canada’s first in-room HD system

CALGARY – The Radisson Hotel in Saskatoon is the first hotel in Canada to offer an ‘HD Free-to-Guest’ television system.

The high definition in-room entertainment system (IRES) eliminates the need for an in-room device like a set top box by using a decryption management card in the TV. This allows the channel lineup to be controlled at the television itself.

Using coax lines, hoteliers can now provide a “cost-effective digital IRES” which allows guests to enjoy the benefits that digital technology provides over traditional analog television.

"We are extremely pleased with the product and service and have seen that reflected in our guests’ comments as well", said Trevor Newton, director of purchasing for Radisson parent company Silverbirch Hotels and Resorts, in the press release. "It was important to find a solution that provided our guests a high quality in-room entertainment experience while balancing our budget goals."

The product was designed by Calgary-based Guest-Tek Interactive Entertainment Ltd. and is provided over Shaw Cable lines. All 291 guest rooms at the hotel will be equipped with LG televisions supplied by HotelSolutions.
