WATERLOO, ON – Sandvine Corporation and its wholly owned subsidiary Sandvine Incorporated ULC has been named in a patent infringement claim.

The company said late Thursday that a claim was filed on February 17, 2016 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas by Packet Intelligence LLC (PIL). Damages have not been specified.

Sandvine said that it is not aware of PIL creating products of any kind and its sole business appears to be the enforcement of patent rights.  Sandvine added that it did not receive any prior notice of this claim and has yet to receive any communication from PIL.

“We respect the value of intellectual property and have created a portfolio of 27 issued patents over the last 15 years, which are put to use daily to improve the Internet experience for network operators and their subscribers,” said Sandvine president, CEO and co-founder Dave Caputo, in a statement.  “We are confident in our technology and the value it will continue to bring to our customers. We will be investigating the claim and defending it appropriately.”
