MISSISSAUGA, ON – Samsung Electronics is offering a Canadian product exchange program for Galaxy Note7 owners in response to the widely reported battery cell issues with the device.
The company said Wednesday that it has identified the affected inventory and stopped sales and shipments of those devices, and that its Canadian customers may either exchange their current Galaxy Note7 device with a new Galaxy Note7, or opt for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7edge through the carrier or retail outlet where they purchased their device. Customers must initiate the Galaxy Note7 product exchange by registering here.
Samsung issued a 10-country recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones following reports that some of their batteries have exploded or caught fire.
"Samsung holds safety and consumer satisfaction as a top priority," said Samsung Electronics Canada mobile solutions EVP Paul Brannen, in the announcement. "While there have been no confirmed incidents in Canada, Samsung is taking a proactive approach to address customer needs around the Note7 and immediately addressing any consumer concerns."
