MISSISSAUGA – As it shakes off memories of its fire-prone Galaxy Note7 devices, Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones at an event Wednesday.

With screens that curve around the edges and no physical home button, the devices also feature the new voice assistant Bixby that allows users to navigate through services and apps with simple voice, touch and vision commands.  Pricing was not disclosed.  Detailed product information is available here.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be available for purchase in Canada beginning April 21 and will be offered in colours called Midnight Black and Orchid Grey. Consumers who pre-order either device between March 29 and April 20 will also receive the new Samsung Gear VR with Controller as a gift upon completion of their purchase.

“The Samsung Galaxy S8 ushers in a new era of smartphone design and fantastic new services, opening up new ways to experience the world,” said Samsung Electronics’ mobile communications business president DJ Koh, in the news release. “The Galaxy S8 is our testament to regaining your trust by redefining what’s possible in safety and marks a new milestone in Samsung’s smartphone legacy.”
