DURHAM REGION, Ont. — Rogers Communications subsidiary Ruralwave announced today construction has begun on a fibre network project to connect more than 300 homes in the communities of Burketon and Tyrone in Ontario’s Durham Region.
The project was announced in May as part of a larger network expansion in Durham Region that is being made possible through a joint investment of $1.4 million by the Government of Canada and Ruralwave.
The sod-turning ceremony for the project was last Friday, with Ruralwave director of operations Dan Risebrough Barnes (above, second from left) and Clarington mayor Adrian Foster (third from left) participating.
The first optical fibres have been laid in the ground, and Ruralwave says in a press release network construction is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Once completed, customers will have access to fibre-delivered download speeds of up to 1 Gbps at launch, the release says.
