VANCOUVER – RTDNA Canada will recognize two individuals in the West region with lifetime achievement awards on Saturday.
Lynda Steele and Rob Germain will be presented with their RTDNA Canada Lifetime Achievement Awards during the West Regional Meeting on April 6, 2019.
Lynda Steele (right) began her career at CKVU-TV in Vancouver, then moved to CITV-TV Edmonton, CBC Edmonton and Global Edmonton, where she was the 6:00 PM anchor for 17 years. After she moved back to BC in 2011, she became the popular host of the consumer/investigative segment Steele On Your Side on CTV Vancouver, before becoming a talk show host at 980 CKNW where she currently hosts The Lynda Steele Show. In addition to being a trusted voice in Edmonton and Vancouver, Steele has been a strong community supporter, raising over $120K for women’s shelters through sales of her book ‘Laptop Diaries’. In addition, she is a recipient of the YWCA Woman of Distinction award for Community Service and the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Outstanding Community Service Award.
Rob Germain (below) has been in broadcasting for more than 30 years, after beginning his career at BCTV (now Global BC). For 17 years he was News Director at CHEK in Victoria, and was instrumental in bringing employees and community minded investors together to save CHEK from closure in 2009. CHEK is now the only employee-owned TV station in North America, and will celebrate 10 years of success as an independent this year. Under his leadership, CHEK News was awarded Best Medium Market Newscast in Canada in 2016. In September, Germain was appointed as General Manager of CHEK Media Group. In addition, he has served on advisory committees for BCIT Broadcast and Online Journalism and Camosun Digital Communications plus served on the board of Greater Victoria Crimestoppers.
