Ross Video integrates Amazon S3 Glacier

OTTAWA — With broadcasters’ video storage requirements increasing exponentially and many turning to media asset management solutions which include cloud-based storage, Ross Video today announced it recently integrated Amazon S3 Glacier storage with Ross’s range of media asset management and server solutions.

Amazon S3 (which stands for Amazon Simple Storage Service) is a cloud-based storage service available as part of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Amazon S3 Glacier is a storage class of Amazon S3 for data archiving and long-term backup.

“When it comes to media asset management, we know that our customers value speed to air, reliability, redundancy, ease of use, and cost efficiency. When looking at each of these issues, Amazon S3 Glacier is a fantastic solution,” says Chris Kelly, product manager for asset management and storage at Ross Video, in the company’s press release.

With Amazon S3 Glacier, broadcasters don’t need to maintain costly in-house storage systems — plus, with the service’s expedited retrieval option, AWS can deliver files within minutes, says the release.

“Amazon S3 Glacier is something that can be implemented on almost a moment’s notice — once the customer establishes their AWS account, they can start archiving immediately with no limits,” Kelly adds.

In addition, Amazon S3 Glacier fits in with Ross Video’s roadmap for storage solutions, he notes.

“In upcoming releases of Streamline (pictured), our asset management solution, we will introduce rules-based toolsets to automate the process of moving content between multiple storage options,” says Kelly. “This is where Amazon S3 Glacier will shine. The value, reliability, speed, and efficiency will further simplify the job of archiving this daily generated content. Decades from now, our customers can have complete trust that the content they rely on to tell the story, will be safe and sound, and ready for air.”
