Roku to stream first-ever exclusive original series on March 19


TORONTO — Streaming platform Roku announced today its first-ever exclusive scripted series, Cypher, will be available for Canadian viewers to stream on The Roku Channel on March 19.

Roku has the exclusive Canadian rights to the new action-drama series (8 x 60 minutes), which will be available to viewers on The Roku Channel for free.

Cypher follows top FBI cryptanalyst Will Scott (played by Martin Dingle Wall, Home and Away, Cops L.A.C.), who is enlisted to crack a coded document, which turns out to be a hit list. Produced by Aroma Studios and United Bros., the series also stars Jaclyn Hales (Mosaic, Christmas Eve), Mary Helen Schmidt (She is Mine), newcomer Lauren Gravitt, Brian Krause (Charmed), Canadian actor John Reardon (Hudson & Rex), Eve Mauro (Age of the Living Dead, Dystopia) and John J. Jordan.

The series is executive produced by Tamer Mortada and Zeus Zamani, who also serves as showrunner, and written and directed by Majdi Smiri.

The channel offers a diverse lineup of programming featuring more than 25,000 free movies and programs and 35 free live linear TV channels in Canada.
