Announces launch of QLED Philips Roku TV in Canada
TORONTO – Roku is making it easier for Canadian consumers to discover and access streaming content with the addition of three new features and an updated Streaming Store experience, all of which will roll out over the coming months on Roku streaming players and Roku TVs, the company announced today.
“With so much great TV available across a plethora of streaming services, we believe it is our responsibility to help consumers navigate the streaming landscape,” Arthur van Rest, VP International at Roku, said in the release. “By personalizing the way our customers connect with the content they love and offering more ways to discover and access new content to stream or save for later, our users have more tools than ever to watch what they want with ease.”
“What to Watch” is a new feature added to the Home Screen Menu where Roku users find popular movies and TV shows from various streaming channels, including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Discovery Plus. “What to Watch provides easy access, a personalized selection of new titles that were recently added, recommendations for users based on popular and trending content, and so much more,” the release says.
A new “Continue Watching” feature is available within the What to Watch experience, making it easier for users to resume watching TV shows and movies they had previously started to stream.
In addition, the new “Save List” feature allows users to easily save movies and shows from across the Roku platform to stream later. “Users will see a ‘Save’ option on movie and TV show details pages, allowing them to add that title to their list with a press of a button,” the release explains. The Save List feature is located within What to Watch on the Home Screen Menu, as well as the Roku Mobile App.
Roku’s enhanced Streaming Store will highlight content through deeper integration with streaming services, according to the release.
“The new Streaming Store offers users a more visual, immersive destination to browse, search, and add free and paid channels to their devices,” the release reads. “Within the Streaming Store, users will also be able to navigate through different categories to easily find and shop for new streaming content. The Streaming Store will appear on devices in the coming months and will be expanded over time to give users a more streamlined and integrated shopping experience on the Roku platform.”
Last week, Roku announced QLED Philips Roku TV models will be available in Canada starting in August at select Best Buy locations, with a starting retail price of $550 for a 50-inch model. Available in four sizes ranging up to 75 inches, the new QLED Philips Roku TVs feature 4K Ultra HD QLED display technology, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and 120 Perfect Motion Rate.
