TORONTO – Roku announced today a faster, more powerful, all-new Roku Streaming Stick 4K is coming to Canada.
“The Roku Streaming Stick has been a fan favourite for years and we’ve redesigned it in the Roku Streaming Stick 4K to be faster and more powerful than ever,” said Mark Ely, vice president of retail product strategy at Roku, in a press release.
“It’s super-charged so you can stream in beautiful 4K and Dolby Vision even at a distance from your router and tucked neatly behind your TV. Whatever your streaming needs, we’ve got an incredible product lineup that features innovations from our singular focus on the TV streaming business.”
Dolby Vision delivers ultra-vivid picture quality, according to the press release. Other features of the Roku Streaming Stick 4K include clutter-free and simple set up, smooth streaming, voice remote with TV controls, compatibility with Alexa or Google Assistant enabled devices and compatibility with Home Kit, “which allows users to easily and securely control Roku devices using Siri or the Home app on their Apple devices.”
The streaming stick will be available in Canada for $69.99.
Roku also announced Roku OS 10.5, which is rolling out in Canada in the coming weeks. It introduces new features including Roku Voice for nearly any channel in Roku search and a Roku search music and podcast row, which “provides a more integrated music experience across the Roku platform with the introduction of voice search and playback of music, podcasts and video podcasts,” and a dedicated, more visual “music and podcast row,” the press release says.
The new OS also features a home tab, which “provides easy access to the latest and greatest entertainment, and features Zones, browsable collections of movies and shows available across a number of top genres and popular/seasonal topics,” and a save list, which allows users to save movies and TV shows to watch later.
Roku will also be introducing 16 new live linear channels over the next month, bringing its total to over 75 live TV channels, the press release says.
