Rogers Wireless adds World Cup content

TORONTO – With a new collection of MP3 and video phones and exclusive content, Rogers Wireless is pushing its World Cup coverage hard – just in time for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany.

Rogers Wireless has signed a broadcast agreement with Infront Sports & Media, FIFA’s* worldwide electronic media distribution partner for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, to be the exclusive Canadian carrier of Official Mobile Video for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, kicking off on Friday, June 9 in Germany.

Soccer fans will have access to exciting mobile content including near-live video alerts, video highlights of the day’s action, anthem ring tunes, country graphics and more – creating an innovative mobile experience.

"Our agreement with Infront for 2006 FIFA World Cup Mobile Content will allow soccer fans to connect with their favourite team, express their support and stay in-touch with the game while on the go," said John Boynton, senior vice-president and chief marketing officer, Rogers Wireless.

Among many other things, customers will be able to get near-live video clip alerts of their favourite team and group in action – including goals, yellow cards, penalties and more directly to their mobile phone (up to four minutes per match). They will also be able to customize their experience with a range of content options – getting updates on their team’s status in eight matches and on all 64 matches in the tournament – plus a download of any team’s country flag, national anthem and the EA Sports 2006 FIFA World Cup soccer game

Video alert pack pricing ranges from $20 to $25.
