HOLLAND MARSH, Ont. — Rogers Communications today announced it will use 5G fixed wireless access technology to connect residents and businesses in the rural area of Holland Marsh (located 50 km north of Toronto) later this year, in partnership with CENGN (Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks) and the government of Ontario.
Rogers has developed an innovative 5G technology solution that uses e-band microwave technology to deliver 5G fixed and mobile wireless access to rural and remote communities, says the press release.
As part of the project announced today, supported by CENGN program funding, Rogers will provide wireless connectivity in the town of Bradford West Gwillimbury and King Township, providing access to 5G wireless and improved broadband Internet to up to 480 homes and businesses in Holland Marsh, an important agricultural area.
The project is expected to begin in the summer of 2021 with services available in the fall of 2021.
“With faster speeds and higher capacity, 5G fixed wireless access has the potential to transform the food systems in Canada and Rogers believes connecting agricultural areas is critical for the future. The ability to deploy and connect sensors or cameras with near real time data feeds, improve automation and monitoring is vital to enable farming communities to continue to deliver sustainable and affordable food sources,” reads Rogers’s press release.
This project is part of CENGN’s Rural Ontario Residential Broadband program.
