Rogers titles second sports stadium

VANCOUVER – The NHL’s Vancouver Canucks will play at the Rogers Arena starting this Fall.

Rogers Communications signed a ten year deal with Canucks Sports & Entertainment Tuesday, becoming the first sponsor in the team’s 40-year history to have both the arena naming and telecommunications sponsorship rights.  Financial terms of the agreement were not made public.

"This is an important strategic alliance and we’re thrilled to partner with an outstanding organization like the Canucks," said Rogers’ president and CEO Nadir Mohamed, in a statement. "B.C. is a critical market for Rogers and this announcement further enhances our investment in the province and builds on our powerful sports legacy. We look forward to partnering with the Canucks to engage fans and to connect Canadians to what matters most, including their passion for sports and hockey."

The telecommunications sponsorship includes extensive branding and advertising placements such as in-ice, in-building and rink board signage; in-game features and interactive hockey themed concourse displays; website ads and mobile applications.

The arena has been known as GM Place since it opened in 1995, but the agreement between the Canucks and General Motors expired.  Rogers’ involvement with sports also extends to the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team and the Rogers Centre in Toronto, as well as sports channel Rogers Sportsnet.
