TORONTO – Budding radio announcers will once again have the opportunity to gain experience on the airwaves through GenNOW, an internship program offered by Rogers Media in partnership with Seneca College.
Now in its second year, GenNOW is a four-month placement for students enrolled in their final year of Seneca College’s Broadcasting – Radio program. Participants will work closely with programming staff at Rogers Radio station KiSS 92.5 in downtown Toronto to develop announcing skills, host overnight shifts, and get hands-on experience on the technology used to build a radio show. Students will achieve marks for weekly assignments that include a variety of on-air exercises and receive a Seneca College course credit – earned entirely on-site at the KiSS 92.5 studios.
“The program has been a huge success for both Seneca College and Rogers, and we are very proud of the students from last year’s pilot program, who are already working in the industry”, said Julie Adam, Rogers Radio VP of programming, in the news release. “KiSS 92.5 program director Karen Steele and her team are continuing to fine tune the course content to ensure students have a meaningful experience and develop the skills needed to succeed in the radio industry.”
"Seneca is pleased that our students have been given this great opportunity to gain deep insight as well as hands-on experience at a Toronto commercial radio station, and we thank Rogers and their team of mentors for giving back”, added Jim Carr, coordinator and professor for Seneca College’s Radio – Broadcasting program.
