MONCTON – Ted Rogers love of launching new products on Canada Day continues.
While last year’s launches and announcements were a little larger, this time Rogers Cable will begin offering residential telephone service to residents of Greater Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John starting July 1, 2006.
What will likely catch the most attention down east is that the company announced the whole province of New Brunswick will be a local calling zone. Rogers customers will not be required to dial "1" before the number, so calling from Moncton to Edmundston will be a local call.
"Not only are we opening up the competition and providing customers with a choice," said Ken Marshall, regional president for Rogers Cable in Atlantic Canada, in the press release. "We’re also providing a better service. With Rogers Home Phone any call within New Brunswick is a local call."
Rogers Home Phone provides customers with the choice of keeping their current phone number or choosing a new number, and it uses existing home wiring and telephone jacks, making it easy to hook up the service.
Pricing begins at $29.95 per month with one calling feature.
Rogers Home Phone is available in the following Greater Moncton areas: Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview, Dorchester, Hillsborough and Salisbury. The service is also available in Saint John, Rothesay, Quispamsis, Grand Bay-Westfield, Fredericton, Oromocto and New Maryland.
Rogers Home Phone will be rolled out in more areas in the province this fall.
