Rogers offers one day credit for widespread wireless outage

TORONTO – Rogers Wireless and Fido’s postpaid wireless customers will have their accounts credited with one day of service after enduring a country-wide wireless voice and text outage Wednesday evening.

Rogers Communications president and CEO Nadir Mohamed made the announcement in a press release issued at 1:43 AM ET the following day.

"I recognize this service interruption was unacceptable for our customers”, he said in the release.  “We worked as quickly as possible to restore service and it was gradually restored over the course of the evening. I sincerely apologize to all of our customers for this significant inconvenience and appreciate their understanding and patience."

Rogers said that it’s “continuing to investigate the root cause of the issue to help ensure it doesn't happen again”.  The wireless outage affected voice and some SMS services across the country, but data services were not affected.
