TORONTO – Rogers has launched the first Canadian all news radio Blackberry application offering headline news, weather, and live traffic updates for the Greater Toronto Area provided by its radio station 680News.
The 680News Blackberry application can be downloaded for free at http://www.680news.com/mobile or directly from the mobile browser at www.680news.mobi. On-demand business and traffic audio reports are also featured on the Blackberry Bold, and Blackberry Curve 8890.
"680News on Blackberry is a natural extension for Toronto’s only all news radio station," said Claude Galipeau, senior vice president of digital media for Rogers Media, in the announcement. "Our aim is to reach audiences wherever they are and with this application, Blackberry users can access the latest breaking news, real time weather, our 5-day forecasts and instant access to hundreds of Ontario Ministry of Transportation and City of Toronto traffic cameras across the major routes in the GTA and the Golden Horseshoe."
In related news, Toronto suburb Newmarket, ON, has partnered with 680News, declaring the station the town’s “official radio partner” in an emergency.
The partnership ensures that during emergencies such as inclement weather, black outs, or natural disasters, the Town of Newmarket will provide 680News with regular updates including road and facility closures, power outages and any other pertinent information.
680News will air this information, in addition to other announcements from Town officials, and Newmarket residents will be directed to listen to 680News for regular updates.
