TORONTO — Rogers Sports and Media announced today the eighth season of Rogers Hometown Hockey, presented by Hyundai and Desjardins, will get underway on Oct. 16 and 17 — the first weekend of the NHL season — in the Township of North Dumfries, Ont.
The weekend’s festivities will be followed by the first pre-game show of the season on Monday, Oct. 18 leading into the New York Rangers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs broadcast on Sportsnet, which will also be available to stream on SN Now.
“Returning in a reimagined format, the free, fan-favourite festival will feature a full weekend of hockey-themed activities, local vendors and live entertainment — all in compliance with local and provincial health regulations,” reads a press release.
“New this season, the Rogers Hometown Hockey broadcast hosted by Sportsnet favourites Ron MacLean (above, left) and Tara Slone (right) will take place every Monday evening, live from a central location in the host community,” the release says.
The first phase of the show’s cross-country tour will include stops in the Ontario communities of Lindsay (Oct. 23-25), Belleville (Oct. 30-Nov. 1), Township of Oro-Medonte (Nov. 6-8) and Greater Sudbury (Nov. 13-15).
The remaining tour stops will be announced on a rolling basis due to the ever-changing nature of the Covid-19 pandemic and provincial public health regulations, the release says.
