Rogers Fund invests $7.5M to support diverse storytellers and content creators

TORONTO – Rogers Group of Funds announced today it is awarding $7.5 million in grants and investments through the Rogers Cable Network Fund and the Rogers Documentary Fund to support over 60 original projects.

“Shining a spotlight on truly unique stories and diverse voices from across the country, the majority of the selected projects are from equity-seeking creators and will be widely available to audiences across major Canadian networks,” a press release says.

The Rogers Cable Network Fund, an equity investor in programs that first play on a Canadian cable channel, has awarded funding to 13 projects including Abroad, “a series about the immigrant experience in Canada, offered in English and Tagalog,” the press release says.

The final deadline for the fund for this year is Oct. 13.

The Rogers Documentary Fund is supporting 49 documentaries across Canada this year, 15 of which are French-language documentaries.

Among the productions that have received funding is La Purge, “which unveils the historical discrimination against the LGBT community by the armed forces and public service in Canada,” the press release says.

“Independent production is thriving in our country, and Rogers Group of Funds is committed to providing funding and support to content creators from equity-seeking communities, helping to ensure Canada’s rich diversity and unique stories are told,” said Robin Mirsky, executive director of Rogers Group of Funds, in the press release.
