Rogers employees get free calling to war zone

TORONTO – Having family and friends in an overseas war zone is harrowing enough without having to pay a massive cell phone bill.

So, through August 31st, Rogers Communications employees can make calls and send text messages to Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus and Turkey for free.

A memo sent last week by RCI president and COO Nadir Mohamed outlined the offer. "It’s almost impossible to miss the daily media coverage of the events in Lebanon and Israel," he wrote. "And I imagine that if you have family or friends in the area, you are paying even closer attention – searching for information about what’s going on in an ever changing situation."

The free calling offer extends to Rogers Home Phone as well as Fido accounts, covering all charges, including roaming.

"We hope in some small way this makes it easier for you to reach the ones you care about," said Mohamed.
