Rogers debuts senior-friendly, easy-to-use handsets from Doro AB

TORONTO, ON – Swedish mobile phone company Doro AB announced Tuesday it is expanding into Canada as two of its easy-to-use mobile phones will now be available at Rogers.

Geared primarily to seniors, the Doro PhoneEasy 620 and 520X mobile phones feature large buttons, a large display, amplified sounds, a camera and flash, as well as an assistance button. The 620 model is a clamshell device, while the 520X is a bar phone that also includes a built-in flashlight for added assistance.

“We have had a successful relationship with Rogers in Canada since 2010. We are thrilled that Rogers is now expanding its Doro offering with these 3G technology handsets as it further intensifies our position in the Canadian market and broaden the reach of our offer as 3G coverage is wider in Canada than 2G,” said Doro president and group CEO Jerome Arnaud in a release.

According to a study conducted by IPSOS for Doro, approximately 80% of people over 65 years of age now have access to a mobile phone. Most seniors report experiencing vision problems, while 29% report some level of hearing loss and 42% report challenges with gripping and handling objects.

The new devices at Rogers are eligible for a senior’s plan starting at $18 per month. Doro is also available in Canada at Zoomer Wireless and Cityfone.
