NFTC begins construction in Mono and Amaranth

DUFFERIN, Ont. – Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) announced today Rogers Communications finished construction on a fibre-optic network that now offers high-speed Internet to 107 homes and businesses in Dufferin County in the community of Garafraxa Woods.

Rogers broke ground on the project, which was announced in September 2020, this past summer. The Governments of Canada and Ontario contributed $419,036 to the project through SWIFT, according to SWIFT’s website. The total value of the project is $687,804.

“Today marks an important milestone as our teams, in partnership with SWIFT, completed the construction in Garafraxa Woods in Dufferin County,” said Philippe Oille, president of Southwestern Ontario Region at Rogers, in a SWIFT press release.

“At a time when Canadians rely on fast and dependable internet to stay connected to their workplaces, learn online, participate in the digital economy, access telehealth services, and keep in touch with loved ones, local residents will now have access to Rogers Ignite Services.”

SWIFT also announced today work is now underway in the municipalities of Mono and Amaranth where North Frontenac Telephone Corporation (NFTC) is building a $4.1 million fibre-optic network that will service 633 homes and businesses in the communities of Camilla and Laurel.

Construction began this past September and is expected to be completed in early 2022.

The federal and provincial government contribution to the project through SWIFT is $2.3 million, according to SWIFT’s website.

“SWIFT is proud to be working together with Rogers Communications and NFTC to quickly expand high-speed fibre-optic services throughout Dufferin County,” said Barry Field, executive director, SWIFT.

“With service now available to many more residents located in the community of Garafraxa Woods and with work progressing at a steady pace in the municipalities of Mono and Amaranth, these important broadband investments will provide long-term sustainable connectivity that will have far reaching social and economic benefits on the communities.”
