Rogers Cable’s Sandip Singh wins SCTE engineering award

EXTON, Pa. – The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced today that Sandip Singh of Rogers Communications Inc. is the 2010 winner of the Young Canadian Engineering Professional of the Year Award.

The second annual award recognizes outstanding technical achievements and contributions made to the advancement of the cable telecommunications industry by a young Canadian engineering professional. The award is made possible through the sponsorship of Aurora Networks and the efforts of media sponsor Cartt.ca and SCTE.

Singh, 30, of Brampton, Ontario, is a digital architect with Rogers. He will be formally presented with the award at SCTE Canadian Summit 2010, which is set for March 9 – 10 in Toronto. The award presentation will take place during the luncheon on Tuesday, March 9. Pre-registration savings for the second annual Summit end Monday, Feb. 1.

After beginning his career with Nortel in 1999, Singh joined the Rogers Communications engineering team in 2005 as the architect of advanced video technology. While at Rogers, he has been responsible for developing architectural solutions for Switched Digital Video (SDV), tru2way, VOD, IPTV, home networking, and software applications; designing and overseeing implementation of large-scale projects and conformance to Rogers’ architectural guidelines; large-scale budget forecasts and allocations for strategic Rogers video deployment initiatives; and vendor relationship development and management.

Over the past year, Singh’s most significant achievements include being an architectural lead of SDV deployment at Rogers and being a prominent player in the organization’s long-term IPTV and video services strategy.

“Sandip has been performing MSO industry-leading technology development and deployment initiatives for more than 10 years in both the vendor and service provider arenas. He is highly versed in the MSO segment and is an upcoming industry leader for both technology and business concerns,” said Singh’s nominator for the award, Christopher Skarica, CTO, North American MSO and Cable, Huawei Technologies.

“He was instrumental in the successful rollout of SDV across the Rogers Cable footprint and continues to help drive the Rogers next-generation video delivery vision. He is a special talent that the MSO industry should be proud to call one of its own.”

For gaining the Young Engineer honour, Singh will receive a VIP complimentary registration to the SCTE Canadian Summit, which is geared toward Canadian engineering professionals who want to focus on the exchange of technical information for today and tomorrow.

The Summit examines the impact of integrating new technologies into existing cable infrastructures. Attendees will gain an understanding of the opportunities and the pitfalls of technology deployments—all to maximize customer satisfaction and gain operational efficiencies.
