Rogers Cable backs Cybertip.ca

TORONTO – Over 1,200 Rogers Cable trucks in Ontario, Newfoundland and New Brunswick will begin sporting “Stop it! Report it!” decals as the MSO announced today it is supporting Cybertip.ca’s national awareness campaign about online sexual exploitation.

Cybertip.ca is a national tip line for receiving and addressing reports from the public regarding child pornography, luring, child sex tourism, and children who are exploited through prostitution. It also provides the public with information, referrals and other resources to help Canadians keep their children safe while on the Internet.

Since Cybertip.ca launched in September 2002, over 5,483 reports of child pornography have been filed. Seventy-five per cent of that number has been reported since the national tip line began operating in January 2005. Sixteen arrests have been made since its inception and over 600 web sites hosting illegal images have been shut down.

"Cybertip.ca is like the neighbourhood watch for the Internet," said Lianna McDonald, executive director for Child Find Manitoba. "We would not be able to stop these crimes against children without the help of the general public who take the time to report tips. With the help of Rogers truck decals, we hope to increase our organization’s visibility and encourage more people to get involved."

"Our Rogers trucks are out on the streets 24/7 and are highly visible in the communities we serve," said Edward Rogers, president of Rogers Cable. "So, it’s a natural fit for us to post the decals on our vehicles. As a partner with Cybertip.ca, Rogers is doing everything we can to heighten awareness about the issue of child online exploitation and are encouraging our customers to take notice of the Cybertip.ca PSA airing on Rogers Television, Rogers radio stations, and banner ads on www.rogers.com."

In addition to being a major sponsor of Cybertip.ca, Rogers is also a member of the Canadian Coalition Against Internet Child Exploitation (CCAICE). CCAICE is a multi-sector group of industry, government, non-government and law enforcement stakeholders from across the country. This organization also helps to combat child exploitation on the Internet while continuing to preserve and promote use of the Internet for the free flow of legitimate and wide-ranging information, entertainment and educational content.
