TORONTO – Rogers is celebrating Canada Day with a new one-hour television special that represents a cross-promotion of its Maclean’s magazine brand on its City television property.
Premiering July 1 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on City, Maclean’s Great Canadian Countdown brings content to the screen from the national weekly current affairs magazine’s annual Book of Lists, a special edition issue of Macleans currently on newsstands.
Hosted by Canadian funnyman Adam Korson (who stars in another original program commissioned by Rogers featured on City called Seed) the program features entertaining trivia about all things Canadian based on the Macleans special issue of ratings, rankings and lists on everything from life and love to entertainment, sports, food, science, nature, business and politics.
A lineup of high-profile Canadians – including Justin Trudeau, Hayley Wickenheiser, Roberta Bondar and Darryl Sittler – also share amusing and irreverent stories about what their country means to them.
“Partnering with Maclean’s and bringing the Book of Lists to the screen has resulted in a uniquely entertaining program that will resonate with all Canadians,” said Claire Freeland, Rogers Media’s director of original programming, in a release. “We’re proud to highlight the dynamic sights, people and facts that our great country has to offer. We’re thrilled with the results.”
“Maclean’s has been having an exciting year, as we expand onto more and more platforms,” said Maclean’s publisher Penny Hicks. “We have a strong presence on the tablet and smartphone, and have published a stable of ebooks. Now, bringing Maclean’s to television is another great way to connect with our readers on yet another platform.”
Rogers had previously partnered City with its Chatelaine and Flare magazine brands for television programs.
