MONTREAL – Canadian telecom company Roam Mobility has unveiled a new service that it says eliminates voice and data roaming charges for Canadians travelling to the United States.
The mobile virtual network operator said Tuesday that it has partnered with T-Mobile USA to deliver the first American network exclusively for Canadians while Stateside. Roam's plans are all pre-paid and range in increments from one to 30 days. Its talk and text plans are unlimited, and include calls and text messages to both countries starting at $2 per day, while its data plans start at two cents per megabyte and are available in 500 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB and 5 GB increments.
CEO Emir Aboulhosn said that Roam is the first mobile virtual network operator to directly broker a deal with a tier 1 telecom company over an international border.
"Canadians are tired of paying the highest roaming charges in the world and we're about to change that," he said in a statement. "Canadians can now use their phones, smart phones, tablets and laptops in the same way they would at home, the second they enter the U.S."
