RIM ventures into mobile device management

WATERLOO – Research In Motion wants to help its business and government customers keep the diversity of devices in their operations secure, even if those devices are not BlackBerrys.

Known as BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, RIM said that its new mobility solution is designed to simplify the management of smart phones and tablets running BlackBerry, Google Android, Apple and iOS operating systems.  This, in turn, will help CIOs and IT departments manage and control wireless access to confidential company information on the corporate network.

"BlackBerry Mobile Fusion brings together our industry-leading BlackBerry Enterprise Server technology for BlackBerry devices with mobile device management capabilities for iOS and Android devices, all managed from one web-based console”, said Alan Panezic, RIM’s VP of enterprise product management and marketing, in Tuesday's announcement.  “It provides the necessary management capabilities to allow IT departments to confidently oversee the use of both company-owned and employee-owned mobile devices within their organizations."

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion is currently in early beta testing and is expected to be generally availabile by in late March.
