RIM sees revenue growth slow to 3% for Q2


WATERLOO, ON – BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) saw a 3% increase in revenues for its second quarter of 2009, and a 37% jump in its year-over-year figures.

Revenue for the quarter ended August 29, 2009 was US$3.53 billion, up from $3.42 billion last quarter, which was broken down as approximately 81% for devices, 14% for service, 2% for software and 3% for other revenue.  Net income dropped 4% to $475.6 million, compared with $495.5 million last year.

RIM said that it shipped approximately 8.3 million devices during the quarter and added approximately 3.8 million net new BlackBerry subscriber accounts, bringing its total BlackBerry subscriber account base to approximately 32 million.

"RIM is entering the second half of the fiscal year and approaching the holiday buying season with an impressive product portfolio, continuing business momentum and strong marketing support from our partners around the world."
