WATERLOO – Research In Motion said Monday that it will offer BlackBerry customers “a selection of premium apps” worth more than US$100 to atone for last week’s service disruptions that affected users around the world.
The free apps will be available at BlackBerry App World store for a four week period beginning Wednesday, and the offer will continue through December 31, 2011. The list of apps included with the announcement includes iSpeech Translator, which converts words spoken or typed into the phone into multiple languages, and mobile phone games such as Sims, Bejeweled, Texas Hold’em Poker and Bubble Bash.
RIM's enterprise customers will also be offered one month of free technical support.
"We are grateful to our loyal BlackBerry customers for their patience," said RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis, in the announcement. "We have apologized to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence. We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again."
