VANCOUVER – Corus-owned CKNW News Talk 980 in Vancouver is getting more socially connected with a new lineup designed to target a broader audience, the station said Thursday.
The new hosts, who the company describes as “socially connected personalities”, begin September 2 and “share the common belief that Vancouver is the greatest city in the world and that stories need to be shared and discussed from a local perspective”, reads the news release.
They include Jon McComb, from 5:30 AM to 10:00 AM weekdays; Simi Sara, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM weekdays; Mike Eckford, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM weekdays; and Justin 'Drex' Wilcomes, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM weekdays. Overnight radio show Coast to Coast with George Noory will air from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM and Reality Check with Bruce Allen will provide daily commentary.
Ian Koenigsfest, brand director AM programming at Corus Radio Vancouver, called the moves “a new chapter in the history of this great radio station”, adding that "we are becoming more than just your parent's radio station."
"Our station has long had the most outspoken, engaging hosts in Canada”, Koenigsfest said in the release. “This new lineup carries on with that tradition, but at the same time recognizes that how people get their news and voice their opinions has changed fundamentally even in the past few years. Today's audience gets their news on their digital devices – and CKNW needs to be there.”
