MONTREAL — Quebec’s Remstar Media issued a press release today celebrating the increased viewership of its MAX and Elle Fictions channels over the past broadcast year (September 2019 to the end of August 2020).
In the 2019-2020 broadcast year, MAX had a reach of more than 5.2 million viewers (compared to almost 4.8 million in 2018-2019), while the new channel Elle Fictions achieved almost 5 million viewers in just one year of existence, says the release. (That’s according to PPM data from Numeris.) Elle Fictions was formerly the MusiquePlus channel, which was rebranded and relaunched as Elle Fictions in August 2019. (The former channel’s viewership reach was almost 4.7 million in the 2018-2019 broadcast year, according to Numeris.)
Remstar says MAX is popular among both men and women (44% vs. 56%), and from mid-March to end of August 2020, the channel has seen its audience grow 42% compared to the August 26, 2019-March 15, 2020 period, according to Numeris. One of the popular series shown on MAX is Hudson & Rex, which reached an average of more than 200,000 viewers per episode, again according to Numeris PPM data.
Since its launch in 2019, Elle Fictions has increased its market share to 1.6% compared to 1% for its MusiquePlus predecessor in 2018-2019 in the F25-54 category, according to Numeris. Elle Fictions also recorded a 22% increase in the F25-54 audience during spring 2020 compared to previous seasons. In addition, during the month of December 2019, when Elle Fictions aired 100% holiday movie programming, more than half of the viewing time on specialty channels in Quebec was devoted to Elle Fictions, says the company.
