Relish Interactive hires The Willoughbys producer Luke Carroll as SVP of animation

DUNCAN, B.C. — Digital content studio Relish Interactive today announced it has hired Luke Carroll (above), producer of Netflix’s animated hit The Willoughbys, as its new senior vice-president of animation.

In addition to this newly created role at Relish, Carroll will also act as senior vice-president of development for the studio’s original content division, Wasabi Entertainment. Wasabi is currently developing a slate of original animated features with the first feature film, Shadowrail Circus, already in pre-production, says the press release announcing Carroll’s hiring.

Today’s news follows Relish’s announcement last month it was opening a new animation studio in Duncan, B.C., on Vancouver Island.

Toronto-based Relish is known for its Apple App Store hit Weirdwood Manor. Shadowrail Circus takes place within the Weirdwood universe (which now includes an award-winning app and novel series with a TV show currently in development), says the release. The animated feature film is slated for release in 2022.

In addition to producing The Willoughbys, Netflix’s first original CG feature, Carroll produced Escape from Planet Earth for The Weinstein Company as well as Bron Animation’s first animated feature Henchmen. Prior to joining Bron as vice-president of production and development, Carroll produced numerous feature-length projects for Mattel Inc.

“Relish has such an impressive track record in combining great creative with the latest technology,” said Carroll, in the press release. “To be able to apply this knowledge to a slate of wildly exciting animated feature films is an unbelievable opportunity. The fact that we get to do this on Vancouver Island is beyond incredible.”

“We’re delighted to have Luke join the team. Not only will his experience producing animated features prove invaluable, but we share a common vision for building an artist-driven studio that puts story first while also pushing technical boundaries. We want to capture imaginations, touch hearts, and tell unforgettable stories that will inspire a new generation,” said Paul Pattison, CEO of Relish and Wasabi.
