Reeb upped to senior VP of news and current affairs at Canwest Broadcasting

TORONTO – Troy Reeb has been upped to the position of senior vice-president of news and current affairs at Canwest Broadcasting, effective immediately.

Reeb’s new responsibilities include driving the strategic direction of the Global News and CH News divisions at the local and national levels.

He is working on setting up Global National’s new foreign bureaus in London, Beijing, New Delhi and Jerusalem, which are scheduled to open later this year. He will also oversee the launch of Global’s first-ever newsmagazine show this fall.

His duties also include overseeing the growth of both Global News’ and CH News’ online presence, and the completion of new production centres in Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto.

“Troy’s strong leadership skills, fresh ideas and expertise in the news business will ensure his natural transition into this role,” said Barbara Williams, executive vice-president of content at Canwest Broadcasting. “His appointment reinforces Canwest’s ongoing commitment to news and current affairs programming, ensuring our success and dominance as we move into a new era of television broadcasting.”

Reeb joined Global News in 1999 as a political correspondent and then became Global’s Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent. Most recently, he was the vice-president of news operations.

He takes over from Steve Wyatt, former senior vice-president of news, who recently retired.
