RAMTelecom wins government broadband contract

OTTAWA – Satellite provider RAMTelecom has been selected by the federal government to create and support a satellite service network that will provide, secure, high-speed data and voice services for remote government offices across Canada.

Ottawa-based RAMTelecom is a satellite service provider of solutions for broadband data and voice business communications.

The initial $600,000 contract requires RAMTelecom to create a new broadband network that may include up to 25 sites. The network will improve federal government operations by giving officials in remote locations ready access to the government’s Intranet and information databases, says the company.

"Most of the remote sites in the proposed network have nothing more than basic telephone service today, so the introduction of RAMTelecom’s broadband satellite service will upgrade these remote areas to the same level of capability as major federal government offices across the country with a highly secure and reliable network," said Ralph Misener, CEO, in a release.

RAMTelecom will create the network and provide 36 months of service with two optional two year extensions. The network will be administered by Public Works and Government Services Canada on behalf of the federal government.

All government departments may take advantage of the new communications infrastructure.
