Quebec's new 579 area code now in effect

MONTREAL - The new 579 area code is officially available for new telephone numbers in the geographical territory served by the 450 code in the province of Quebec.The increasing demand for telephone numbers, particularly for wireless devices, created a need for additional numbers to serve customers in the region, according to the Telecommunications Alliance.
