Quebec’s Kangaroo bounds into two more NFL stadiums

MIRABEL, Que. – Canadian manufacturer Kangaroo Media will see its in-stadium multimedia service expanded into additional National Football League stadiums this coming fall.

Kangaroo and DirecTV announced the expansion of Sunday Ticket viewing in-stadium to two new teams. The Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks will join the Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins by offering this unique service during the 2007 season. (The announcement was a piece of a larger DirecTV release which will see more games offered on mobile and on broadband, too.)

Fans will be able to watch any NFL Sunday Ticket game on a Kangaroo TV portable handset while attending a live NFL game.

Kangaroo Media and DirecTV have an agreement to bring Sunday Ticket programming to fans at NFL stadiums using Kangaroo TV proprietary technology. The program was introduced as a one-year trial basis last season in Miami and Washington, and the NFL has agreed to extend it through the 2008/2009 season.

The service will be available beginning with each team’s 2007 regular season opening home game. Single-game rentals are US$24.95 with full-season plans at $149.95, and just $119.95 for season ticket holders or DirecTV subscribers ($79.95 in Seattle, where the Seahawks play fewer games during the NFL Sunday Ticket window).

“This season we’re giving more fans the NFL Sunday Ticket experience wherever they are, at home, on the road, in line at the grocery store, or watching their games on Kangaroo TV in the stands or in the parking lot,” said Eric Shanks, executive vice president of DirecTV Entertainment. “Kangaroo users we surveyed last season were nearly unanimous in their praise of the handset and its ability to enhance their in-stadium experience."

This expansion, "points to the great potential of this technology within the NFL,” said Kangaroo Media CEO Marc Arseneau. “Our goal is to transform the fan experience… Our proprietary technology is already popular in motorsports, where Kangaroo TV can be found at NASCAR, Formula-1 and 24 Hours of Le Mans races.”
