MONTREAL – Quebecor Media Group is cutting 220 jobs, or about eight per cent of its workforce, as part of restructuring efforts, the company said Wednesday.
The cuts, which will mainly impact managers, professionals and administrative support staff, will bring staffing levels in line with the organizational changes and reduce operating costs, reads the company’s news release.
"In Québec as elsewhere in the world, our industry is facing ongoing disruption," said Quebecor Media Group and TVA Group president and CEO Julie Tremblay, in the release. "We have therefore taken a number of initiatives over the past two years to adapt to the changes, including the creation of Quebecor Media Group, an integrated media company, and the acquisition and sale of various properties. Today it is clear that we must continue our transformation in order to further adjust structural costs and become more agile."
At TVA Group, 125 positions will be eliminated but the company said that the staff reductions will have no impact on the newsrooms or on news coverage across Quebec.
In addition, TVA Publications will cease publication of two magazines — CHEZ SOI and Tellement bon — to focus on its flagship brands in the home decorating and cooking categories such as Style at Home, Canadian Living, Les idées de ma maison, Coup de pouce, and Recettes du Québec.
