MONTREAL – Quebecor has donated $15 million to the Fondation du centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montreal (CHUM), the largest philanthropic commitment in the Foundation’s 20 year history.

The donation, made as part of the "Donnons-nous le meilleur de la santé" (Giving ourselves the best in healthcare) capital fundraising campaign, will enhance the CHUM's performance through new state-of-the-art equipment and support for research, teaching, health promotion and patient experience initiatives.  The campaign is currently at 75% of its $300 million goal.

In recognition of the donation, the CHUM will name its amphitheatre, the architectural centrepiece of the new hospital's third and final phase, after Quebecor founder Pierre Péladeau.  The grand opening of the CHUM's Amphithéâtre Pierre-Péladeau is slated for 2021.

“As a company we have a responsibility to act in solidarity with our community," said Quebecor CEO and president Pierre Karl Péladeau, in a statement.  "At Quebecor, we haven't forgotten the commitment made by my father, Pierre Péladeau, which is why we're proud to make this $15 million donation to the CHUM Foundation. Our contribution will help this major hospital centre pursue its mission of excellence while continuing to provide the best possible care. This is a vital legacy for future generations, and our way of carrying on my father's philanthropic work."
