Quebecor Fund announces $549K in film production assistance and export support funding

CMF contributes an additional $150K in export assistance

The Quebecor Fund board of directors last week announced funding for two projects under its Film Production Assistance Program and for one business model under its Export Assistance Program, the latter also receiving funding from the Canada Media Fund (CMF).

In this round of Quebecor Fund’s Film Production Assistance Program, a total of $399,000 has been awarded to producer Productions Rakonti Inc. (Amalga Créations Médias Inc. and Les Films du Lac Inc.) and distributor Immina Films for the first project, and producer Amérique Film and distributor Maison 4:3 Inc. for the second project.

Produced by Productions Rakonti and distributed by Immina Films, Menteuse is a spin-off of the film Menteur and stars Anne-Élisabeth Bossé as Virginie, a compulsive liar whose lies come true, and Antoine Bertrand as her boyfriend. The film is directed by Émile Gaudreault and written by Gaudreault, Erik K. Boulianne and Sébastien Ravary.

Produced by Amérique Film and distributed by Maison 4:3, Deux femmes en or follows neighbours Violette and Florence in this reinterpretation of the 1970 cult film of the same name. The new film is written by Catherine Léger, adapted from the original screenplay by Claude Fournier and Marie-José Raymond.

Since its launch in September 2010, Quebecor Fund’s Film Production Assistance Program has granted 113 projects a total of more than $19 million, including more than $18 million for 99 film projects and more than $1 million for 14 event projects, according to a Quebecor Fund press release.

Through the Export Assistance Program (EXAP), Quebecor Fund and the CMF support export initiatives by funding the development of audiovisual content adapted for non-Quebec and international markets as well as marketing efforts.

In this round, Quebecor Fund and the CMF are each investing $150,000, for a total of $300,000, in the business model of animation producer Happy Camper Média Inc.

Since the inception of the EXAP program in March 2014, the Quebecor Fund has invested more than $12.1 million in 57 export business models with 33 partner companies, the press release says. In 2017, the CMF joined forces with the Quebecor Fund to bolster the EXAP and has contributed more than $4.4 million to export models through the program since then, says a CMF press release.
