MONTREAL — Quebecor’s advertising sales division Quebecor Expertise Media announced today the company’s transit shelters were used once again this year as part of the Zoom Art outdoor exhibition that brought contemporary art to the streets of Laval’s Montmorency district from Sept. 10 to Oct. 3.
This is the second year in a row Quebecor’s shelters have showcased works from a selection of artists featured in the Zoom Art exhibit, which was organized by the City of Laval to coincide with the annual Journées de la culture series of free cultural activities.
“Democratizing art and culture is at the heart of our mission at Quebecor Expertise Media,” says Patrick Jutras, senior vice-president and chief advertising officer of Quebecor and TVA Group, in a press release.
“We embrace all art forms and we are happy to leave the beaten path and offer everyone a different way to engage with culture. Passersby were able to appreciate the breadth of possibilities offered by our transit shelters, ranging from advertising to art, as in this case.”
The photographs on 25 of Quebecor’s transit shelters featured magical realist works by artists from Laval, the rest of Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia — “melding the familiar with the strange and transporting viewers to dreamscapes in the midst of urbanity,” the press release says.
Descriptions and information about the artist and the project were displayed on the inside of shelters, and art lovers could take in the exhibition as an urban art circuit by following a map, available online here.
